Measurement and kerf conventions

Lengths are stored exactly and may be entered as 36, 36.5, 36 1/2, or—when selected—3' 6 1/2". Changing units converts values instead of reinterpreting them.

Kerf is counted between separated pieces and before a retained offcut. A part ending exactly at the usable board end needs no final cut. Each trim allowance already includes its own kerf.

Solver limits and optimality

Plans may contain up to 100 stock rows, 250 part rows, and 500 required pieces. Up to 18 pieces per material group use exact branch-and-bound search, bounded to 250,000 states and four seconds across the plan. Larger groups compare three general constructive searches, up to 12 diverse single-stock-profile strategies, and board-elimination improvements. Results say “optimal” only when enumeration finishes; otherwise they identify the best complete result found or explain that the limit ended before a complete result was found.

Available stock

Leave quantity blank for unlimited stock. Preferred stock only wins after the chosen material/cost objective ties, so it cannot force waste or an incomplete plan.

Blank means a square 90° cut. Angles are the interior angles where each cut meets the marked top reference edge, and finished length is measured between those intersections. The optimizer transforms the complete trapezoid when a rotation moves that marked edge to the bottom, projects both edges across the real board width, accounts for angled blade width, and only shares compatible adjacent cuts. Rotation and face-flip permissions come from the stock row.

When the stock and part lists are ready, calculate the plan.

Results are invalidated whenever an input changes, so workshop progress can never attach to a different layout silently.

Import schema

Use a record_type column with stock, part, setting, plan, or custom_field. Advanced columns include material, price, preferred, width, allow_rotate, allow_flip, left_angle, and right_angle. Setting rows put the setting key in name and its content in value. Partial files merge only the sections they contain.
